Key attributes of March Madness

Please allow me to inform you of a few key attributes of our race. March Madness is in it's 29th year. During this time we have been exclusively a volunteer only race.

March Madness does not have contributors nor sponsors and never has. This is a race for runners by runners. The purpose of the eBay entries is to further fund the Hillstriders/Fritz Kaufman Scholarships for McHenry County Male and Female athletes. This process has provided $5,000 annually in scholarships the last several years. The monies coming from the ebay contributions (100% of dollars bid), as well as the majority of proceeds from the race.

We make contributions to the community for their volunteerism including the Cary Grove High School Track & Field Teams, the CGHS Tennis Team and local Soccer Teams that participate in putting on the race.

We fund all of the ancillary support functions at the High School, as well as pay for usage of the building and facilities - adding dollars to the community.

Every year we seek to offer a unique and valued premium.

Finally, as a club, we promote the sport of running in our community persevering to hold the race despite the ever increasing costs associated.

We take this race very seriously and have taken extreme measures to maintain the tradition. Consider other races (some of shorter distances) that (a.) cost more and (b.) don't give back to the community.

Finally for the Hillstriders Running Club, it's about the runners. While we can't possibly make everyone happy, we have certainly tried to make at least 1000 of them happy each year for the past 28 years and hopefully, many more to come.
