MORRIS dancing is traditional ritual dance and street theatre from England that is associated with bringing luck, prosperity, and agricultural fertility to the community. It is also great fun! The origins of Morris are uncertain, but this living tradition dates back at least 500 years and there are numerous references to Morris in the plays of William Shakespeare. The basics of Morris are very easy to pick up; all that is needed is a willingness to jump around waving handkerchiefs at other dancers in time to music. Sound like a good time? It is!

RAVENSWOOD MORRIS performs throughout greater Chicago at cultural festivals, farmers markets, and other special occasions. In addition to performances, we attend gatherings of other Morris teams from around the world. By its very nature Morris is seasonal and tends to focus on springtime and early summer, but there is dancing to be done all year round.

Does this sound like it's for you? Do you wish to join other lovers of traditional music and revelry in this wonderful dancing experience? Ravenswood Morris is always ready to welcome new dancers, and an international community of Morris dancers waits to welcome you as well.
