Civil War reenactment, Lakewood Forest Preserve, Route 176, just west of Fairfield Road, Wauconda, IL ( http://www.lcfpd.org/ ). This event has a big civilian living history display, reenacting a Civil War era agricultural fair. This has been a GREAT event, and we have high expectations again this year! Civil War reenactment, Lehmann Mansion, Lake Villa, IL ( http://www.lake-villa.org/civil_2008.html ).  Look for us at the Crescent City Benevolent Society encampment. (Rob & Gary)

Boone County Conservation District Autumn Pioneer Festival, 603 Appleton Road, Belvidere, IL ( http://www.boonecountyconservationdistrict.org/ ). This is another REALLY GREAT historic reenactment! This is primarily a civilian reenactment, and there are lots of demonstrations of “pioneer” crafts and skills, including spinning, weaving, bobbin lace making, blacksmithing, broom-making, pottery, cooperage (wooden barrel and bucket making), flint-knapping, and wood turning on a treadle lathe. Try home-brewed root beer or sample freshly made apple butter. (See photos linked from our home page under Highlights of 2008 and Highlights of 2007.) If you like seeing old-time crafts, plan on spending the whole day. (Rob & Gary)
