Premier performance of "Hymn Fest", compiled and arranged by Thomas Reed, First Presbyterian Church, 203 W. Washington St., Marengo, IL 60152.  Free-will offering to be donated to the Marengo Food Pantry. (Gary singing in chorus)

Sat, 7/10/10, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm

Civil War reenactment, Lakewood Forest Preserve, Route 176, just west of Fairfield Road, Wauconda, IL ( http://www.lcfpd.org/ ). This event has a big civilian living history display, reenacting a Civil War era agricultural fair.  This has been a GREAT event, and we have high expectations again this year!  (See photos linked from our home page under Highlights of 2007 and Highlights of 2008.) Look for us at the Crescent City Benevolent Society site. (Rob & Gary)

Civil War reenactment, Lehmann Mansion, Lake Villa, IL ( http://www.lake-villa.org/civil_2008.html ).  Look for us at the Crescent City Benevolent Society encampment. (Rob & Gary)

 

Sun 9/26/10, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm

Boone County Conservation District Autumn Pioneer Festival, 603 Appleton Road, Belvidere, IL ( http://www.boonecountyconservationdistrict.org/ ). This is another REALLY GREAT historic reenactment!  This is primarily a civilian reenactment, and there are lots of demonstrations of “pioneer” crafts and skills, including spinning, weaving, bobbin lace making, blacksmithing, broom-making, pottery, cooperage (wooden barrel and bucket making), flint-knapping, and wood turning on a treadle lathe. Try home-brewed root beer or sample freshly made apple butter. (See photos linked from our home page under Highlights of 2008 and Highlights of 2007.)  If you like seeing old-time crafts, plan on spending the whole day. (Rob & Gary)
