Boone County Conservation
District Autumn Pioneer Festival, 603 Appleton Road, Belvidere, IL ( http://www.boonecountyconservationdistrict.org/
). This is another REALLY GREAT historic reenactment! This is primarily a civilian reenactment, and
there are lots of demonstrations of “pioneer” crafts and skills, including
spinning, weaving, bobbin lace making, blacksmithing, broom-making, pottery,
cooperage (wooden barrel and bucket making), flint-knapping, and wood turning
on a treadle lathe. Try home-brewed root beer or sample freshly made
apple butter. (See photos linked from our home page under Highlights of 2007, “2007 Boone
County Conservation District Autumn Pioneer Festival.”) If you like seeing
old-time crafts, plan on spending the whole day. (Rob & Gary)
